About Tickoff

Tickoff is built by one freelancer, for freelancers who are tired of chasing clients for files, feedback and payment.

Freelance web developer, founder of Tickoff

I did client work for about ten years, then spent a stretch in a full-time job. In 2025 I went back to freelancing, and the chasing hadn't changed.

On two long-running client projects I kept asking for the same things: feedback, the logo, the content, images, API credentials and invoices. Mostly on WhatsApp and email, and it felt awkward every single time.

One client still owes me around $3,000 for an app I built. With another, the hardest part is the monthly payment they agreed to and still need reminding about. The money usually came only when they needed something from me and we got on a call.

Why I built Tickoff

As I saw it there were two options: keep chasing by hand, or make a tool the default way billing works, so the reminder isn't me nagging. Tickoff is that tool. Your client gets one link to send files, answer questions, sign off on designs and pay, and a Billing Desk sends polite email reminders until it's all ticked off.

I built it in my spare time, from those two clients: final files that unlock once the invoice is paid, because I only got paid when they needed me, and monthly invoices for retainers, because the monthly payment was the hardest part.
